It's been a while since The Masked Singer fans got to see the contestants from Group A perform. And they all missed the rockin' Turtle who's been called one of the best performers of the season by the judges.
The stylishly shelled creature was first introduced via Twitter on Jan. 21 with the simple caption "l陌陌飞艇多少币et's roll."
And several stunning performances that have brought judges and audience members to their feet, everyone is wondering who is the Turtle on The Masked Singer. Though the judges' guesses have ranged from Zac Efron to former boy band members, the internet and we at Woman's Day have our own theories.
Theory 1: Jesse McCartney
It's clear based on all the Turtle's performances (including a jaw-dropping rendition of Seal's "Kissed By a Rose") that the celebrity beneath the costume has some vocal experience. So, that narrows it down to a professional (most-likely) male singer.
Then, the clues in the pre-performance packages have us and the internet thinking the Turtle is Jesse McCartney.
In one of the clue packages, the Turtle talks about being left behind the pack when first starting his career. The New York native's career began in the late '90s with a stint on All My Children. 陌陌飞艇多少币He later joined the boy band Dream Street, where he saw some success, but not as much as members of more popular boy bands like NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, and 98 Degrees.
One clue also features the Turtle holding a surfboard, which could be a nod to McCartney's appearance on Summerland, a TV show that took place in a surf-side town. It could also be symbolic of the many Teen Choice awards that McCartney won and was nominated for.
陌陌飞艇多少币In 1999, McCartney was the lead singer of boy band Dream Street, which one of the more recent clue packages seems to have referenced. A chalkboard image was shown with the repeating line, "Don’t Rave Ever At My School -Turtle." When the first letter of each of those words is added up, it spells "DREAM ST." Hello!
Also, McCartney is known for his hit song "Beautiful Soul" and one of the clues in the third episode referenced the Korean city Seoul. Maybe more of an auditory clue than a literal one? Additionally, the Turtle hinted that he once spent the morning with Nicole. Well, as one Twitter user pointed out, they did a morning show together way back when.
陌陌飞艇多少币The big clue in the April 1 video package was something to do with a superhero and comic book. McCartney once voiced , so that seems to point right at him.
陌陌飞艇多少币And, as many Twitter users pointed out, the voice of the Turtle sounded a lot like McCartney.
陌陌飞艇多少币When the Turtle revealed the contents of his bag on the April 8 episode, there were a few clues that pointed to many clues pointed to McCartney. For start, the bag contained a baseball glove, which could be a nod to the singer's favorite sport.
Later, in the April 29 episode, fans were gifted another clue in the form of the numbers 9, 1, and 4. Together, and in that order, they make up the area code for McCartney's home sate of New York.
Plus, one of the Turtle's clues was that he spent the morning with Nicole Scherzinger, and they once did the early morning . Additionaly, the May 6 zombie clue could point to on the zombie show Fear the Walking Dead.
Theory 2: Joey McIntyre
Normally we brush off the judges' guess, but Jenny McCartney actually made a decent guess when she suggested former New Kids on the Block member Joey McIntyre.
One pre-performance package featured security guards wearing bunny ears. McCartney though meant the celebrity was connected to her, as she was once a Playboy bunny. Additionally, the Turtle is grilling up some burgers in the video. Some people (:cough: Ken Jeong :cough:) immediately thought that meant the masked celebrity was Donnie Wahlberg, owner of Wahlburgers. But McCartney, who is married to the former boy bander, thought this meant the celebrity knew her husband as well. Since McIntyre was in New Kids on the Block with Wahlberg, he would fit the bill.
And the cherry on top of this theory: The Turtle referenced "Step by Step," which happens to be a NKOTB hit.
The Masked Singer official Twitter account also sent McIntyre a Valentine's Day card from the Turtle. Too on the nose?
陌陌飞艇多少币When the Turtle revealed the contents of his bag on the April 8 episode, many clues pointed to McIntyre. For start, the bag tag read "Never Keep Open This Bag" — NKOTB. Second, there was a glove which guest judge Yvette Nicole Brown thought could be a nod to the Red Sox, the team of McIntyre's hometown of Boston.
Theory 3: A Backstreet Boy
陌陌飞艇多少币For weeks, Ken Jeong has been suggesting a member of the Backstreet Boys was finally hiding beneath the Turtle mask. But it wasn't until the May 13 episode that fans and other judges started taking that seriously.
The pre-performance package was filled with clues that pointed to a member of BSB. First, there was the street sign that read "Back" — aka a literal back street. In that same package, the Turtle asked the judges to "quit playing games," which happens to be the name of a BSB hit.
陌陌飞艇多少币As the season progresses, we're sure to learn more about the Turtle's true identity. For now, however, we're feeling pretty confident in the Jesse McCartney theory.
